The Basics Of The Game of Volleyball posted by Volley Ball

Volleyball is played between two teams having six players each. The teams are separated by a net, and the aim of the game is to ground the ball into the court of the other team. Volleyball is played indoors, on the beach, or on grass surface. Since 1964, the sport of volleyball is being played in the summer Olympics, and there are many other tournaments and competitions held across the world as well.

The volleyball court must be nine meters wide, and 18 meters long, which is divided into two equal parts. The net is 40 inches wide and stands eight feet high in the center of the court. For women's competition, the height of the net is kept at 7 feet 4 inches. The ball should weigh 260 to 280 grams, and should have a circumference of 65 to 67 centimeters.

The team that will serve first is decided by a coin toss. The player who serves will throw the ball in the air and hit it so that it passes over the net and lands into the court of the opposite team. The opposing team is allowed three contacts with the ball to return it to the other side. The usual strategy will be a player bumping the ball so that its trajectory is aimed at a player who will hit it and then a third player will try to spike the ball so that it moves down quickly to the ground on the opposite side. In response to this offense, the other team will play defensively by jumping near the net and blocking the downward stroke and pushing the ball back into the opposite court. The game will continue in this manner with several rallies of offense and defense, until the ball touches the ground or it is shot outside the designated area.

A big thanks to everyone who participated in the "Inbound Link Contest".  We have a winner!  A big congratulations go out to Marija.  Thank you for all your hard work on this.  While we had a lot of people participate, Marija was able to win with only 4 links!  So it wouldn't have taken a lot to win this contest!  We'll be having another contest soon so stay tuned.

The whole purpose of this contest was to get our bloggers networking with other webmasters and to start to build up their inbound links which will help their traffic.  Even a few links can help you with the search engines as they will see you as more of an authority on your topic the more inbound links you have.

Inbound link contest - Win $100! posted by Earn Money Blogging

To try and motivate our bloggers to get inbound links we're going to have a contest to see which blogger can get the most inbound links to their blog. The contest begins now and ends July 31st, 2008. To be entered in to the contest all you have to do is go out and get as many websites to link to your blog as you can and at the end of the month send us an email listing all those links. All links must be active from August 1st through August 7th when we'll be judging the entries - a winner will be announced on August 7th. All entry emails must be received by Midnight on July 31st, 2008. You can email them to sportsfan@nbabasketballonline.com

We're going to impose some restrictions on the types of links you can get so please see below for the full list of links that do NOT count.

To get started simply go to Google and find other websites and blog that are about the sports and teams that you write about. Email the website owner and ask them for a link by explaining that you think your blog would be a good resource for their readers. Or offer to write a guest post for them with your by-line and URL at the bottom of the article. Or offer to exchange links with them by writing a quick write up of their site and a reciprocal link back to them. Some webmasters will be happy to add you to their blog roll even if you don't give them a link back (which is ideal) but some may want you to link back to them - you can easily do this with a quick blog entry on your blog about their website.

In the case of Mike Emerick, that is just what he did.

Unhappy with his coach, his playing time, and the overall outlook of his career at Lindenwood University in the winter of 2008, the college volleyball player decided to explore other options.

"I applied to a few other schools," said Emerick, which included Iowa State, where Mike had friends attending the school.

After another incident early in the season sent Mike over the edge to the point where he was conviced he would have to transfer, he came to an enlightened decision, one that would change the course and direction of his life.

"I knew I had to confront my coach (Ron Young)," said Emerick.

Which he did. In a conversation that took almost an hour, Mike got everything off his chest that was bothering him. He also revealed the fact he had applied to other colleges. He also sold his coach on all the reasons he should be playing more.

"I told him I worked harder than anyone, I trained more than anyone," said Emerick of the conversation. "I didn't give him an ultimatium. It was more a safety net."

Which had an immediate impact. Young agreed with Mike on his points. He also revealed his feelings about Mike, something he was longing to hear.

"He (Young) said he didn't want me to leave," said Emerick.

It is always fascinating to find out what other things athletes excel at! We all know how good LeBron James is at basketball and how solid Terrell Owens is as a wide receiver in the NFL, but what we don't know is how good they are at the recreational activities we participate in like playing pool, volleyball or in this case, bowling.

The USBC (United States Bowling Congress) released their US Celebrity Bowler rankings and it just so happens that 3 NBA All-Stars highlight the list!
